Spes-07: From Quantum Networks to Quantum Internet of Things

Description

Today, quantum technologies are attracting growing interests, efforts and investments: research and innovation on quantum computing and communications are finally getting out of the labs and seems to be ready to exploit first Quantum Networks, initially based on QKD systems. This will pave the way towards a future Quantum Internet.

It is expected that Quantum Networks will be fully integrated with current network for the purpose of executing methods and protocols which are provably more efficient than the classical counterparts. In particular, Quantum Networks will enable new services such as: quantum security services (e.g., through QRNG, QKD systems), quantum computing services (e.g., distributed quantum computing, blind computing, etc) and new forms of communications.

In the long term (2030+), the Quantum Internet will exploit further the principles of Quantum Physics for transmitting, processing, and storing qubits, which are the units of quantum information. In fact, Quantum Internet is expected to transfer quantum information without actually sending any qubit through the quantum channel by the virtue of quantum entanglement. Next evolution will be the extension of quantum technologies in the domain of the Internet of Things.

The main objectives of this session include: (1) drawing the state-of-the-art of Quantum Networks in order to forecast the potential socio-economic impacts; (2) proposing architectural principles for Quantum Networks evolution towards Quantum Internet; (3) providing a critical analysis of experimental use cases, on quantum cybersecurity also for the Internet of Things.

Authors are invited to submit original manuscripts in the areas listed below or related to:

  • Quantum Secure Communications (e.g., QKD, QRNG, PQC)
  • Architectural principles and management of Quantum Networks
  • Quantum Internet of Things
  • Modeling and simulations of Quantum Networks
  • Experimental use cases on quantum cybersecurity

Important Dates:

  • Paper submission: 13 June 2022 August 1st, 2022
  • Acceptance Notification: 8 July 2022 August 16th, 2022
  • Camera-Ready Paper Submission Deadline: 31 July 2022 August 31st, 2022

Paper should be six (6) pages in length and follow the instruction provided for the main Conference. The conference allows up to two additional pages for a maximum length of eight (8) pages with payment of extra page charges once the paper has been accepted.

Chair

Dr. Antonio Manzalini, Chair of IG GSMA work-item on Quantum Networking and Services

Antonio Manzalini received the M. Sc. Degree in Electronic Engineering from the Politecnico of Turin (Italy) and the PhD from Télécom SudParis and Université Pierre & Marie Curie – Sorbonne Universités (France). In 1990 he joined Telecom Italia Lab (formerly CSELT). He started his job with RT&D activities on technologies and architectures for transport optical networks. Then, he was actively engaged (1996-2000) in ETSI and ITU-T standardization as Rapporteur. He was involved in several EURESCOM and European Project playing responsibility roles. He was Chair of the IEEE initiative on SDN, and currently is joining the Board of IEEE Comsoc Industry Committee. He was General Chair of the several IEEE Conferences. He owns seven patents on methods and systems for Telecommunications. His results were published in more than 130 of technical papers and publications. Currently, his activities in TIM includes Edge Cloud Computing, 5G and Quantum Communications. He is currently Chair of IG GSMA work-item on Quantum Networking and Services.
